The success that Gene One has had in eight short years has presented several questions concerning the strategic path of Gene One’s future. The path chosen is to move forward with its initial public offering using the Resource based strategy. As the organization expands, there will be a growing recognition of the company. The leadership team must be aware there is potential for the external organization criticism. In addition, for Gene One to keep up with the competition, the organization’s leaders believe that the company should have annual growth of 40%. This goal should be done within the next three years. Therefore, goal setting would be necessary to ensure that the organization is successful and on target. Usually goals setting can be a difficult task because many different aspects have to be taken in to account. According to Kreitner and Kinicki (2005), difficult goals lead to higher performance than easy or moderate goals: goals should not be impossible to achieve. Specific, difficult goals lead to higher performance for simple rather than complex tasks. Another potential effect on the organization culture could be because Gene One new strategy would now include three stakeholders whom are the employees, the employer, and the soon to be stockholders. Each stakeholder has individual perspectives, rights, and ideas; because of the financial interest such as profit and maximization. However, they also share in the responsibility of employee compensation and employee satisfaction. Their main interest is having a powerful management team that can produce results but also handle employee concerns and pressure.
