The Ideology of Shame essay
Shame is a weapon that is used to ruin an individual's self-esteem making them feel like they have no purpose of living because of one’s tragic mistake. Guilt of shame believes that one committed something sinful that has the power to control one’s mental in a more pessimistic outlook on life. Shame cannot be remedied with a simple cure, making this emotion more damaging to the individual’s self-esteem. What is the ultimate question about this emotion? What does shame exist in our world, is it something that our world maker has created as a poison to our health? In my view, shame is a guilt that we as human-beings all go through this point of our everyday lives. We all have the sense of guilt of not making the right choice and regretting it for not choosing it. However shame is a societal dynamic imparting the lives of minority groups that created our society in all cultures. All cultures have shame, but all of them work differently. Culture utilizes shame as an act of furthering social control as a critical socializing tool. Culture and identity is affected by this emotion of shame, it is an ideology rooted in the word of shame this is the direct link on understand the natures of trauma of shameful guilt when individual suffered from a traumatic event of having constant flashbacks about the tragedy. These flashbacks can be both real and false because of the nature of scene retrieval from the articulated memories of the guilt. Which the flashbacks of shame is one of the most critical evidences of how daggering of shame can ruin the individual's’ life outlook leading to more destructive choices of violence of anger and sense of worthlessness. For example, in “The Things they carried”, O’Brien written stories about his experiences during the Vietnam War era of seeing the tragic events that destroyed the lives of former troops like Norman Bowker.
