• debating file sharing, is popular topic at newsgroups, message boards, blogs, and web sites. A CD only has a few good songs. Many think albums have too much filler, cds cost too much, the old arguments are still valid like I wouldn’t have the cd anyway, or music is terrible nowadays that’s why sales are declining. As a student I can testify that I barely barely have enough money to pay for laundry, let alone CDs and DVDs.Or perhaps we could argue that MP3s are not a physical thing, so no actual value is lost by "stealing" a song. In effect, what we see as intellectual property should not have the same rules applied to it as physical property. A strong argument is that a lot of people only download hard-to-find songs, they are often of low quality and popular artists make lots of money anyway.Another strong argument is that If taping off the radio is okay and not subject to long and complicated court cases, then why not trading MP3s? Moreover, if If sharing with one friend is ok, then why is sharing with everybody wrong? As for the artists themselves, it is well documented that many artists actually support file sharing ,such as Janis Ian Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore an Wilco's Jeff Tweedy. It is very interesting to note that it is the so called ‘A’ league artists such as Aerosmith that are so vocal in their hatred of file sharing. They may like to take stock and think that when they tell the music buying public not to steal music they will take the course of simple human and just do it just to spite them. Or take more drastic measures such as boycotting the music industry, which is a strong anfd real threat
• It is often said that we can learn from history, but rarely do. Here it is woth noting that The music industry said the same thing about cassette tapes, and the industry didn't crumble.
