Immigrating to Canada


Many people come to Canada from different countries for reasons of their own. My journey to Canada from Taiwan was a decision made by my parents on my sisters and I behalf. It was a decision I did not agree to in the beginning, however, after living here for the past six years I've learned to love this country and to understand the reason why my parents brought us here. Although the transition was not easy, the diversity in Canada as well as the environment around me went a long way to make the transition easier. Immigrating to Canada was one of the best things to happen to me as the transition was easy, the education is much better and life in general in Canada is better in every way.



It was a rainy day in Taiwan the day I found out I was moving to Canada. After living in Taiwan for all of my adolescent years, I've grown accustomed to this lifestyle. All my friends, family and my life were in Taiwan. To pick up my bags and leave was probably one of the saddest events that has happened to me. I protested, cried, screamed and kicked because I did not want to leave. My parents kept explaining all the benefits and how immigrating to Canada is for the better. I did not want to listen. The day I left Taiwan, a part of my soul was left there, I was going to come back somehow I vowed. My early days in Canada were painful, I did not know any English and communicating with anyone was almost impossible. My parents were not going to stay with us as they still had to work in Taiwan. The first few weeks my parents were trying to find a home stay for my sister and I. The search was long and rigorous as I would reject almost everyone they had seen. It was not long till my parents just chose one for me due to my stubbornness. I'll admit I was a bad kid as I was adjusting to life in Canada. I would not listen to anyone and I would just do my own thing like I was living in my own world. My first day of school, I felt like an alien. I was did not...
