Is America still the land of opportunity? Even though politician's have conflicting interests American's should support Obama's immigration reform plan. Lest we forget America's heritage is based on immigrants. Immigration affects many of the issues we are facing as a nation today, which is why we need to make a change that will last. Immigration reform also poses a faith and moral questions. American's must oppose anti-immigrant way of thinking and denial of basic human rights.
America has always been the land of opportunity. Immigrants founded this country and have long been a vital part of society and their communities. The principles that America stands for are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Clearly the founders of this country could not have imagined the insurmountable problems our nation would face, but nevertheless American’s must change with the times. More than 12 million illegal immigrants reside within our borders. Why do those immigrants not deserve the same opportunities that were offered to our ancestors who came to the United States in search of “the American dream”? Many would say it is because they did not follow the proper channels. That outlook is understandable, but the immigrants are still here regardless. We can either make a proactive change that will benefit everyone involved or simply throw them all in jail and deport them. Making a proactive change is the best route for America. Not only will change address the illegal immigrants already residing within our borders but future immigrants as well. Arrest and deportation will split families, cost the government for keeping them in jail, and deportation. It also will greatly affect the amount of children left parentless straining social services departments nationwide.
