What are some of the best ways to welcome and then assimilate immigrants into American life?
Over the past years, the United States has seen a rapid increase in immigrants who come to the region in search of better lives for them and their family. These immigrants, throughout the history of US, are hard workers and contribute greatly to the country’s economy by providing labor and purchasing power (Borjas, 01). Nevertheless, the immigrants face social rejection and discrimination among the American Citizens. Immigrants need to be welcomed and assimilated in the country. This can be achieved through acceptance and love.
First, the US government needs to insist that for all the immigrants coming into the country should come in good faith. They should have the heart to become American Citizens and merge into the American lifestyle. Only then, one will be treated on an exact equality with everyone else. It is not fair to discriminate a person based on their creed, origin, or birthplace. This can only be achieved if the person has decided to become and American in every way (Lawrence, 12). The need to become an American citizen by culture is no compromise. Any person who lives in the United States, but calls himself something else is not an American at all. In America, there is only room for one flag and one language. There is only room for one loyalty that is a loyalty to the American people.
In conclusion, immigrants should learn to live the American way to be assimilated into the country. They need to embrace the American way so that the other Americans can accept them. It is only through this when they will not be discriminated and treated as foreign citizens.
