Imperialism is when one country goes and conquers
another country. It causes man changes in the country.
Senegal was imperialized in the 18th century, the
imperialism caused a huge uproar in the country. The
French colonization of Senegal resulted in a
significant change in culture, economy, and government
of the Senegalese, which is evident in their
literature.
The spread of education and raised economic
opportunity has changed a traditional social
structure. Based on family and relationships, the
majority of the of the people tightly believe the
traditional values of Kersa (Respect for Others) and
Tegin (Good Manners). Rerranga (Hospitality) is a
common word used by almost all of the country’s twelve
ethnic groups. Senegal is located on the western tip
of Africa. It takes up an area of 76,000 square miles
(190, 781 square kilometers). Senegal has two major
seasons. One is the sunny, dry season and the other is
hot, humid rainy season. Senegal is known to be a land
of flats with rolling plains and trees. It is bordered
on the north of Mauritania. Senegal is on the east of
Mali and the south of Guinnea- Bissau. It is also on
the west of Atlantic Ocean. The natural resources in
Senegal are peanuts, millets, and sorphum.
Imperialists came to imperialized Senegal due to
slavery. They had auctions to sell the Africans to the
highest bidder and exported them.
Senegal was imperialized in the 18th century. The
three changes that were used in the thesis were
culture, government, and economy. The major change in
imperialism of Senegal was culture. Some of the
examples were language, religion, cuisines, and
traditions. Language has changed because before
Senegal was imperialized, Senegalese would speak in
different languages including Wolof and other more.
