Implementing Leadership Change

Change can create chaos in organizations or it can create a feeling of cohesion within a group. Facilitating change within organizations can be overwhelming because of the uncertainty of change. Eliminating disease in tomato and potatoes Gene One is entering the biotech industry. It is evident that releasing an Initial Public Offering (IPO) enables the company to expand and increase profits. Going public has many advantages, however, Gene One must create a better market position by offering two new groundbreaking technologies. With the raise in capital and the increase in market shares, Gene One can implement more time in consulting, developing, and implementing the IPO efforts. Thus Gene One is considering two possible strategies to lead the company while achieving desirable outcomes and maintaining an innovative organization. The two strategies are appointing a temporary change agent to assist the Chief Executive Officer in implementing effective change and replacing the current CEO, Don Ruiz.
The Gene One management team is not in agreement concerning the initial public offering; many have reservations because there is an absence of leadership skills and experience. Recommendations suggest replacing current management with a manager possessing adequate qualifications. There are many other reservations including the non-related negative biotechnology scandal making headlines that causes concern from managers as to the timing of moving forward with an initial public offering. The chief technology officer wants to stay in research and marketing while other issues involve the negative impact on Gene One from the negative publicity generating from the article concerning another biotechnical field.
