Children Driven Education
I thought that the research presented in this video was very impressive. It simply goes to show that children can learn very fast and they excel at things they are interested in. children that have never used the computer before, that did not even know what the internet was until Sugata Mitra left a computer in their walls or in their care. It is true that good teachers are cannot be found where they are needed the most and this greatly impacts the education of the less fortunate. However, this experiment showed that by simply introducing a computer to a community, vast knowledge can be spread with little effort from adults.
“A teacher that can be replaced by a computer, should,” Mr. Mitra. This statement proved to be almost a hundred percent true during his experiments. Children who had difficulty reading, writing, speaking proper English, etc showed quick improvement in all these areas because of the computer. The computer fascinated and interested them and thus they were captivated with everything it had to offer. This comes back to the statement, children will learn and retain what they want to or what they are interested in. because of programs such as Google and Youtube, they are now able to see and hear how things “should” be said and done and thus greatly improve their skills in all areas. The children that see education as fun will never tire of learning new things. This is how children in less fortunate areas can advance and have the opportunity to better themselves off.

This lecture builds a little from Mr. Mirta’s experiment. Many of the children in slums drop out of school and start working because school is boring and the education offered in schools is just barely enough to get someone by. Charles saw that...
