IN AN ESSAY OF APPROXIMATELY 2000 WORDS DESCRIBE AND DISCUSS SOME OF THE MANY DIFFERENT FORMS OF CRIME WITHIN OUR SOCIETY.
In this essay I will be discussing some of the forms of crimes our society face. Today there are many crimes such as murder, rape, arson, theft, prostitution and many more that are committed every day. My main focus will be on the most serious crime murder but will also discuss the criminal act of rape.

Crime is considered to be an act that has violated the law. Originally two categories were put into place, felony being a serious violation of the law and the other being a misdemeanour.
_“Felonies are more serious crimes than misdemeanours. Robbery, kidnapping, rape, and murder are examples of felonies. Public drunkenness, resisting arrest, and simple battery are misdemeanours. However, the same offense might be either a misdemeanour or a felony, depending on its degree.”_

This was for the purpose of deciding which courts should deal with different kinds of crimes. However by the early 19th century the increase of crime had rendered these categories outdated as in many cases it was incoherent with the seriousness of the offenses concerned. For example theft was classified as a felony no matter how much was stolen where as obtaining by fraud was deemed as a misdemeanour. By the late 1960’s the English Law had been updated and introduced a new distinction between “arrestable” offences and “other” offences.
