The aim of this research is to study the reasons of proposing to build an incinerator, the advantages and disadvantages of building an incinerator in Hong Kong, how the Hong Kong citizens’ view towards the project, and the effectiveness of building incinerators compare to other possible method on the disposal of solid waste.

From the study, we can find out that Hong Kong remains as the highest country with the largest amount of waste produced. Hong Kong has a total of 1.36 kg waste produce by a family every day. With compared to other countries, Hong Kong has a high amount of waste produce. Moreover, Hong Kong relies heavily on landfills to dispose waste but the landfills in Hong Kong are all facing the problem of saturation. So, it is in a urgent that Hong Kong government propose to build incinerator.

The Hong Kong citizens have both positive and negative views towards the project. According to the questionnaire that I have conducted, more than a half respondents(77%) said that they support the building of incinerator as they think that there is no other better way to ease the landfill saturation problem. However, still 23% respondents do not support building incinerator as they think that method like expanding landfill is already good for the problem. Generally, Hong Kong citizens support building incinerator.

Also from the study we can see that, Hong Kong citizens think that building incinerator has both advantages and disadvantages like 63% respondents think building incinerator can dispose a large amount of solid but also 47% respondents think building incinerator is too expensive which is not worth to carry pout this project.

Moreover, from the questionnaire we can find that most of the respondents (51%) think that building incinerator would be the number one method to solve the landfill saturation problem and to dispose the largest amount of solid waste compare to other measures like waste charging, expanding landfills, reduce waste at source...
