Euthanasia

Euthanasia is the act of intentional death given by a lethal injection. Euthanasia can be used both for medical uses and as a death penalty. In medicine Euthanasia is used when a patient is suffering a lot and is asking for the injection. This is sometimes called mercy killing. Euthanasia can only be given to a person who asks for it, if all close relatives agree and if the case is serious enough to be given euthanasia. Euthanasia is only allowed in a few countries, and Holland is one of them. A lot of people are against euthanasia because of religious reasons. Most people feel that only God can have the power to decide when a person dies. Other reasons given against euthanasia are that doctors are given too much pows.er which human beings cannot hold. Another argument against Euthanasia is that sometimes it is not the patients best interest to get euthanized, and the patient feels obliged to euthanasia. In Lois Lowries’ award winning book ‘The Giver’ a similar thing called release is used on old people, on twins, or as a punishment. Release and Euthanasia are similar in several way
Euthanasia is legal in a very few amount of countries in the world. It is legal in Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Switzerland, the U.S. states of Oregon and Washington. Euthanasia is when a patient chooses voluntary death because the patient is suffering, even with the medicine given. To be given euthanasia, there must be four factors considered- the patient must be in pain, death must be near, the patient must apply for euthanasia himself and the medicine he receives does not help the patient anymore. In Holland the rules on Euthanasia are very strict, and doctors who do not consider any of the rules receive twenty years conviction. Those rules are the following:
