The High School Apprenticeship Program Application Essay by Deja George

As a student, I believe I am a very hard working individual. I have always been on the honor roll during my High School career. I am also a member of the National Honor Society. Aside from working hard for myself, I also assist my classmates who are in need of help in tough courses such as trigonometry and physics. My favorite subjects are visual arts and history. I enjoy history because I find learning about the past to be very interesting. Ancient Egyptian civilizations and the Holocaust are a few of my favorite history topics. Lastly, I enjoy visual arts because I enjoy drawing and I plan to have a career in the Art field one day.
My extracurricular activities are participating in Saturday Art Career Workshops which is hosted by the Art Direction’s Club (Located in Manhattan) and “The Animation Project which is hosted by the Young Audiences of New York (Also in Manhattan) Both of these exciting programs are very important to me because my biggest aspiration is to become an illustrator and/or an animator when I get older. The Saturday Art Career Workshops allow me to gain an understanding of the various occupations that are available in the Art field. I have participated in visiting museums such as The International Center of Photography. I have also met a very eccentric yet brilliant artist, Kevin O' Callaghan while participating there. The Animation Project is a fun experience as well. I am able to working with advanced equipment and able to use my drawing skills to create actual animations within a group. It’s important to me because I am able to meet new people and do what I love, which is drawing.
In August of last summer, I made the journey to the Whitney Museum of American Art. I went to view the Yayoi Kusama exhibit. This was a very enjoyable experience because I went on a tour with other teens to view Ms. Kusama’s art work. Even though she is of Japanese...
