A data driven error occurs when external events cause the inappropriate action of a schema and force some type of unwanted behavior. There are many actions that occur in my life because of automatic processing for example every day I drive my car to work. I get in the car and turn the key. There are often times I will walk to the store. I also automatically pick up the telephone when it rings I just start talking nobody tells me to. Another example is riding a bicycle or motorcycle, I remember a time in my younger years when I was trying to learn how to ride a bike; I just kept falling off the bike no matter how hard I try to stay on it. It was very difficult for me to concentrate or remember what to do once I was on the bike. Because for some strange reason I thought the bike would hold me up. But once I learn how to peddle and steer it became automatic and I was on my way to becoming the fastest bicyclist on my street. Now I know how to ride a bike without even thinking about it. Action slips can occur at any time during this schema activation. One type of slip is called a capture error, this occurs when some sequence being performed is similar to one that is familiar and well practiced. One time I went to put the margarine in the dishwasher, another example is I took my dirty plate off the table and open the refrigerator to put it in there. There have been times I walk into a room intending to do one thing; did something else instead. Several times I left my keys in the ignition, got out the car and then I push the button to lock the car doors. I always just reach in the drawer to get a clean pair of socks, there have been times after work at my home, and I went to take a shower and had...
