Abstract
Although the history of Tokyo (Japan) covers more than 400 years, only after the end of WWII has the city gradually turned into an enormously large and densely populated metropolitan area. The last 50 years of Tokyo’s history were marked with its growing geographical, economic, social, and cultural significance as one of the largest cities in the world.

The last 50 years of Tokyo’s history were marked with its growing geographical, economic, social, and cultural significance as one of the largest cities in the world. Since the middle of the 1950s, when Korean War turned out to be the source of the growing financial profits, Tokyo authorities found it necessary to initiate complete reconstruction and redesign of Tokyo. The need for reconstruction was also justified by the coming Olympic Games; as a result, “streets were widened, the subway expanded, a monorail was built out to Hanada and the bullet train link to Osaka was established” (Tokyo Essentials, 2006). The growing amount of highway construction did not stop even after the Olympics; even the historically significant Nihombahsi Bridge was equipped with a high quality and excellently well designed highway (Tokyo Essentials, 2006).
Since the middle of the 1970s, Tokyo has become the major attraction to migrating workers. With the growing and expanding economic ties, Tokyo turned out to be one of the most dynamic cities on the planet. Tremendous growth of economic and social activities, the development of numerous social and cultural networks, the creation of fashion-class of entertainment opportunities – all those worked to make Tokyo an excellent tourist attraction.
