Jim James was a normal boy with a normal life. Everyone seemed to love him and he was friends with everyone. He was protesting one day against the football team and some of the players came up to him and beat him up. That when everything went downhill. He was known in school as the retarded freak. He had very low self-esteem and developed a minor depression. He then resulted to drugs, L.S.D, pot, booze, the whole party scene. In 12th grade his guidance counselor called his dad about his problems and suggested psychiatric help. His father shrugged it off and sent him to college 2000 miles away. His dad sent him money every month and Jim kept spending it in drugs and alcohol. Then he started stealing and doing other illegal things and ended up in jail. Then his brother took him in and sobered him up. Then he went through manic depression which got him hospitalized and he slept through an entire year. The doctors had him on Lithium and Valium. Jim was doing good so his father bought him a motorcycle. One day Jim got so depressed he ate both bottles and got on his bike ready to crash, he did not crash but fell over at a red light and ended up in the e.r. His shrink told him he did not know what to do with him anymore. He ended up leaving his father and tried to go to Maryland to become a drug dealer. That landed him in jail again. While he was in there he got severly beat and it gave him a wake up call. Once he got out he got motivational training and worked with a CO. he is know a loving father and has never been in better shape.
I think this article is very upsetting. My boyfriend has bipolar disorder and sometimes it scares me to think he is going to end up depressed. This guy struggled a lot to get to where he is now. I hope for the best he stay that way and it doesn’t happen again.
