As though as we haven’t heard already, this upcoming presidential election will probably be the most important in our lifetime. Unless you all have been living under a rock for the last two weeks, the unpredictable and unstable Wall Street has crashed, leaving its pieces to be picked up by the government. So on top of all of the political issues that is at hand, more than ever, the economic stability will be in the hands of the next president, whether it’d be John McCain or Barack Obama.
In light of all that has taken place, I speak for the conservative side of politics. John McCain, a maverick as many have called him, has risen to the occasion for this upcoming election. Along with his VP, Sarah Palin, McCain plans to deliver himself as a traditional republican: moderate reform and little government influence. It is essential that we focus mainly on the issues at hand as opposed to popular criticism of candidates based on their age or race. At first glance, McCain’s economic plan seems a bit selfish; giving those in the higher salary bracket a decrease in yearly tax bill. Democrats often argue that the conservatives don’t care for the disabled, the poor, the needy, and those who not fortunate enough to be born in a well off family. The truth of the matter is that McCain’s economic ideals are realistic. His principles are based off of equal dividends for all. Principles that will maintain marginal tax rates but at the same time reduce the heavily taxes on the wealthy. For those who argue that the wealthy should be expected to carry the burden are supporting the notion that those who work hard in their life and are successful are expected to make up for those who are not. By what principles do you live by if you wish to live at the expense of someone else’s hard earned money.
Along with the economic issue remains the issue of gas prices. Though the recent price of oil has dropped, it remains a burden for many families to fill up their gas tank. McCain supports...
