In Susan Glaspell’s story, Mrs. Wright killed his husband. Legally speaking her behavior can be defined as a crime. But most people have pity on her. She lives an isolated and lonely life without any social activities. She has an unhappy marriage without the child. And the only interest of hearing the bird singing is deprived by her husband. We can understand why she killed her husband. Because at the time of the society. If a husband kills his cheating wife is legal, but if the husband maltreat his wife and wife resist is illegal. We can see that in at the time of the society the man’s logic is law of the whole society. The women are second-class citizen, because without look children and clean home, they don’t have any droit. Physical abuse and emotional abuse and the low social status bring a lot of suffering to women, then women begin to revenge and at the time of the society man superior to law. For example, In Sophocles’ drama “Antigone”, Creon has forbidden others to burry Polyneices, citizens who do this will be sentenced to death. Antigone buried her brother and at last she was put to death.
