KEY TERM AND WHY YOU ARE INTERESTED IN IT
I selected “dimensions of culture” as the key term to research for Discussion Board Forum 2. I have chosen to study this key term further because it is essential for global business managers to understand the dimensions of culture of the nations in which they do business. It is imperative that global business managers recognize the dimensions of culture in order to make sound decisions and negotiate effectively when doing business in another nation. Furthermore, an in-depth study of this key term will aid in research as I work toward completion of the Global Business Cultural Analysis on Japan.
EXPLANATION OF THE KEY TERM
Our textbook categorizes the dimensions of culture as “Communication, Religion, Ethics, Values and Attitudes, Manners, Customs, Social Structures and Organizations, and Education” (Satterlee, 2014). The dimensions of culture are patterns of learned and shared behavior within a group of people, whether that group be a nation, institution or social group. While many studies have been conducted on the various dimensions of culture, our textbook focuses on the cross-cultural analyses of Geert Hofstede, Fons Trompenaar, and Robert House. A study of the various dimensions of culture will lead to cross-cultural competence and a more geocentric corporate culture.

MAJOR ARTICLE SUMMARY
In the article, “Cross-Cultural Etiquette and Communication in Global Business: Toward a Strategic Framework for Managing Corporate Expansion,” the author discusses the necessity of preparing global business managers for worldwide assignments. The author asserts that global business managers should be trained in cultural sensitivity, global etiquette, and cross-cultural communication in order to achieve success in the global marketplace. Failure to adequately prepare employees for multinational assignments can lead to an ethnocentric corporate culture and loss of competitive advantage.
