Leadership is defined as a managing or leading of some sort, whether at home, in community, at work or as a professional. One can be leading through professional expertise and increasing awareness of the role of leadership and team development in organizational development. An essential skill of a leader is to understand the history of service visions, values and goals, so understanding the rationale behind change and utilizing this in gaining commitment from team members to set objectives. The leadership role is to facilitate the exploration of barriers and identify conflicts which exist, then work collaboratively to resolve them. Leaders need to be prepared to extend beyond their boundaries of comfort and able to advocate the need to develop more effective at a strategic level.

Skills of leadership:

Leadership needs two sets of skills, one is transactional and other is transformational.
Transactional skills are required to enable the effective day to day running of the team.
And transformational skills are required to allow the team to work together and be innovative in their approaches. Transformational skills plays a key role in any team life cycle consists of four stages. They are the size of a team, the introduction of new members, the existence of varying professionals within any team and increase in likelihood of subgroups developing. Transformational skills of individual can be seen how the leader can empower team members to participate in and lead individual working groups. In achieving integrated team, both encourage and support the individual development of leadership skills is required.
