POST LAB QUESTIONS

1. Explain how the ecosystem was affected by the missing species for each round of the demonstration.

a. Round 1 = Without trees, we are missing our shade and producer of oxygen.
b. Round 2 = Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, they pollinate our flowers and plants. Without them, our plants don’t get pollinated.
c. Round 3 = Us missing from the ecosystem might be a good thing. The animals can thrive, trees can grow and the earth can go on without being destroyed
d. Round 4 = I didn’t understand what exactly lichens did, only what we used them for so I don’t know what the affect would be if they were missing

2. Provide one action we as humans engage in that leads to the extinction of each of these components.

Action affecting Lichens = ?
Action affecting Trees = loosing our shade, producer of oxygen, producer of wood. Habitat of many animals
Action affecting Flowers = Without the pollination, we wouldn’t beable to grow our foods
Action affecting Bees = The bees are who does our pollinating

3. Provide three specific actions that humans can take to minimize our impact on the ecosystem and ensure the survival of lichens, trees, flowers, and bees.

Action 1 = Trees, we can quit cutting so many down and start a massive replanting effort to rebuild all that we have destroyed
Action 2 = Flowers are something we can replant as well.
Action 3 = Bees are such a vital part of our existence. We need to quit using the pesticides. They are killing off the bees.
