Summary of the Time Period
The Labor Problem at Jamestown by Edmund S. Morgan was taken place during the time 1607-1618. Jamestown was established in the year 1607 May 14th. Though Jamestown was the first settlement in America it had very many problems such as labor problems in the text it states “Men spend their time bowling in the streets when their lives depended on work...plow and plant crops that have kept them alive” I think what the authors is trying to make visual for us is to let us know as a audience to show the conditions and social and economic problems of the people back then. The quote above states that the people payed more attention to making money off of tobacco and not the crop that keeps them alive as a whole of Jamestown. This is just one of the problems that was faced against the first settlement of America. The reason this was bad was because of the fact they were too focused on the idea of growing tobacco and making money not growing the plant that kept them alive.

For example the people were very focused on farming tobacco and trading and such. The people were just thinking of ways to make money off of tobacco instead of surviving so that shows that the people were more focused about money than actually living and that created problems.
