Las Vegas: Always a Winner
This is a strong attention getter that uses a little humor. I arrived in Las Vegas a virgin, a gambling neophyte, and an awkward dancer. I had never played a table game, sung in a karaoke bar, or even talked to a complete stranger. My perceptions of Las Vegas had been formed from my church pastor, who considered it a city of sin, and a viewing of a Hangover movie, which did little to dispel that notion. After three days, I left the city with a brand new perception, but what happened there, well...as the saying goes: “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” Las Vegas has a reputation of being a wild and wonderful vacation destination, and that reputation is well-deserved. Considering its unusual entertainment, gambling opportunities, fine cuisine, and superb accommodations, Las Vegas ranks high on the “must visit” list for adults. I have made it into an annual event and each time I find more reasons to return.
My first Las Vegas stay landed me at the MGM Grand Hotel, one of dozens of world famous casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. In this hotel alone, the entertainment choices were extensive. This is the first criterion the writer uses to evaluate Vegas. Notice the writer follows the order set up in the thesis statement. Celebrity performers included David Copperfield, Eddie Murphy, Adam Lambert, and Jimmy Kimmel. There was also a showing of Jabbawockeez, an unusual dance troupe that dresses in expressionless white masks and gloves, and then capitalizes on athleticism, unique choreography, and creativity (Stewart). Writer included data gleaned from research and cited the source. Furthermore, there was a late night comedy show and numerous smaller bars with live entertainment. All this in a single hotel! This is a fragment, but it does not hurt the flow of the paragraph. Although taxicabs are plentiful, most destinations on the Strip can reached by walking.
