Effective Leadership and Communication
What is effective leadership? How effective is leadership without communication. To have success as a leader, you must have effective leadership and communication. You must develop an effective style leadership and communication that can deal with the different styles you may encounter in day to day operations. Would you agree the role or position has little or no bearing on a person’s ability to lead? As leaders we often struggle with maintaining a high level of production, positive work environment, and motivation within our organizations. We must know our employees, their needs and how to communicate effectively with them. They must have a clear understanding and know what the expectations. Cultural diversity can add to any organization, but it has to be managed correctly to eliminate any pitfalls that may occur from communication translation breakdown.
Communication is the process through which we attempt to construct shared realities. The human communication process includes sources and receivers, message encoding and decoding, channels, noise, communicative competence, participant fields of experience, contexts, and effects (Shockley-Zalabak, 2009). Communication up and down the levels of supervision will keep the masses informed. Employees respond and perform to a higher level when they are “in the know”. A large part of effective communication is the ability to listen to what other people are communicating to you.
When you respond to mistakes as learning opportunities instead of finding fault and blame, you encourage people to find better solutions (Hosey, 2010).
