 Personal Leadership Traits
As I reflect on my seven habits profile my initial thoughts are that I could really improve across the board. While I did good or above on every category, I can’t help but want to score outstanding. When I think about each category individually, I begin to think that possibly this exercise is incorrect since I truly believe that I excel at that category. So when I analyze the category and questions associated with it it, I can then begin to see how I can definitely improve. For instance, in the category Begin with the End in Mind, I do fairly well and fall in the very good range. As I think deeply about the questions, I really see how I could improve and do better. While I know what I want accomplish in life, and I feel that I organize and prepare in a way that reduces having to work in crisis mode, I certainly do not begin each week with a clear path. I have some items that have been scheduled and that I know I must accomplish, but as a general rule I don’t walk into a week having a clear path. In my view every week brings a new set of challenges and they are normally out of my control. But when I really reflect, I realize that if I wanted to plan better for each week, it is well within my ability.
The same thing goes for my lowest scoring category of Seek First to understand. If I look solely at the category and what I think it means, I would say that I seek to understand everything I do. As I read the questions though, I see that my interpretation of what that means I changed. When I think of being sensitive to the feelings of others, I think of my employees and how I see to understand how they feel. I rated my self as fair since I do make an effort to understand, but am I really sensitive to their feelings once I understand where they are coming from. That goes hand in had with with seeking to understand their viewpoints. While I know that I try and understand their viewpoints, do I utilize that in my decisions...
