Born April 24, 1932
He served in the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant from 1954 to 1956.
He received his BS degree in electrical engineering from Oregon State University.
He received his MBA degree in business administration from Stanford University.

1985 Leadership Award from U.S. Council for International Business.
He received this award for his leadership of HP.

1988 Excellence in Communication Leadership from International Association of Business Communicators.
He was awarded this for his outstanding communication with international businesses.

1990 Prime Minister's Trade Award from Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu in Tokyo, Japan.
He received this award for his endeavor of putting an HP facility in Tokyo, Japan.

1991 Honored as the Robert S. Hatfield Fellow in Economic Education by Cornell University.
He received this award and was invited to speak to the students and faculty where he shared his significance of his success.

Diversified Hewlett Packard’s departments allowing different departments to work together for a common goal.
By doing this all the departments had a better grasp on how to present and sell their product to the customer. Also it allowed for better and quicker feedback from the customer for improvement and cutting down time between improvements.

Being appointed to this committee John used his knowledge and expertise to allow the United States to meet international competition at home and abroad.
