Learning Experiences and Learning Environment
Learning is a strong developmental component which involves renovating or transforming the knowledge in the process of accomplishing personal goals or targets accurately by using the previous experiences. Students newly joining universities have a very different perspective of seeing learning, they often see it in narrow reproductive terms, however this thought is changed after they recognize the importance of developing their own understanding of course materials. ( Marton, Hounsell & Enwistle, 1997)
Reflecting back other pre University learning experiences compared with OUM’s environment we recall an organized class rooms with lots of rules and principles to be followed and teaching sessions organized in a systematic manner, where the key role is played by the teacher. Where as in OUM we the students are the one who play the lead role as OUM inspires very much “independent learning”. As one of their aim is to be a leader and innovator in open distance learning, by democratizing education, develop learning skill through multi mode learning technologies and enhancing experiences toward the improvement of knowledgebase society.
The learning environment provided by OUM enhances our learning in a tremendous way Enhancing the accessibility and flexibility of learning. They open up opportunities to a wider section of society including part time and mature students and remove many barriers of inflexible structures previously encountered by many students. They provide an organizational frame work which is practical and suited to the needs of our times.
Following are the features included in OUM’s Learning environment which enhances our learning:
