Marijuana is not a new thing to the US, not to mention the world; it is a drug that people use to for recreation, and also medical purposes. As a matter of fact, marijuana has been around for thousands of years. People from different countries around the world use it to cure sickness and such. Hence, I think it is important to start consider legalizing marijuana. The plant provides us with so much benefits not just medically, but also economically, and politically. Marijuana can be helpful in treating many kinds of health conditions Legalizing Marijuana has become a huge topic in the United States nowadays, so much that Washington DC has allowed the use of marijuana (Fieldman, L). The majority of lawmakers and politicians believe that it is an addictive drug that costs people’s good money. However, it has much more than meets the eye.
Historical background of marijuana:
The earliest written reference to marijuana was made by Emperor Fu (circa 2900 BC) who is an ancient emperor of China who is credited to bringing civilization to China. He refers to the word “Ma”, which is the Chinese word for cannabis and notes that cannabis was a very popular medicine in China that possessed both yin and yang (Gumbiner, Jann). A reference to marijuana is even made in the Holy Bible.
