Lesson I Learned

In life there are many lessons to be learned. Most lessons I've learned have been through experience. Over time I've learned to do things out the kindness of my heart not because of what I want in return. Of course I learned this lesson the hard way. Being put through different situations like money being borrowed and not returned to me showed me to only do things because i want to help not because i expect something in return. Ive also learned people are not my real friends. Being talked about behind my back proved this to me. The biggest lesson I've learned is staying to myself, because I have less drama in my life this way. Luckily, I learned these lessons at an early age.

When I was young, I was very friendly. I was always willing to give and never noticed when I was giving to much. I would allow my friends to borrow my clothes, my sneakers, even money, not realizing they would not do the same for me. One day, I was in need of bus money and two of my friends told me they had no money to give. Of course I was not upset because I believed they did not have any money, but when I over heard them joking about me not having any cash and their plans for the day I became disappointed. Two people I had no problem doing for, and helping, did not want to help me. This is when I realized people are not obligated to help me just because I have helped them.

Although my friends did not let me borrow money for the bus, that is not what upset me most. I still could not understand why my friends were critiquing me in a cruel way while I was not around. When I heard the jokes they were making I wondered how often this was happening. I also thought to myself, if they cared so little about me in my time of need they could not be my true friends. Days had passed by, and I began to drift away from our friendship. After a family member of mine pointed out that they were glad I was no longer hanging out with them they praised me, saying how I was to good for those boys, and...
