Globalization Benefits All Globalization is a new term that has come to define the ongoing process that has resulted in the growing interconnectedness of the world. According to Thomas Friedman, one of globalization’s most widely read advocates; globalization is “the integration of capital, technology, and information across national borders, in a way that is creating a single global market.” The result is a world that seems ever smaller, and a pace of interaction that seems ever faster. The effects of it are felt by a wider range of people and countries. Advocates of globalization claim that it benefits all nations, whether developed or developing, in ways previously inconceivable. Opponents assert that an increased pressure to compete globally in turn harms developing nations, resulting in unintended consequences like decreased economic competence and gender inequality. In the modern world, the benefits of globalization outweigh the costs attached to it. The increasing interconnectedness has led to more interactions between people and nations, rapid economic growth, and the increased ability to spread one’s political and social message across borders to resolve global issues. The effects of globalization are extremely far-reaching. Issues that once were dealt with in isolation must now be thought of as being linked to other issues. In the past, countries worried only about the domestic consequences of their domestic policies; however, they must also take into account the international impacts it may have. As Jeffrey Sachs once noted, “It is no longer possible in an age of mass communication to ‘play to the home audience’ without the world also listening.” The increased ability to communicate, the spread political and cultural messages, and the rapid economic integration benefit all participants in the global world. The forces of globalization are unstoppable and the world truly is becoming “flat.”
