Life as a Landscaper
Have you ever had a job that you really did not like? I’m sure that we all have. I have had a few jobs that I hated every day and would never do again. But, however, I believe I can prove that I have had one of the worst jobs that exist. I worked for a company that does landscaping and irrigation. This field of work takes a big toll on your body by working long days, allowing bad sunburns, and also giving you back problems.
The first thing I noticed that I didn’t like about working for a landscape company was the long days that seemed to never end. In the landscaping business you travel to several different locations throughout the week. So, if there was a big job that needed to be finished, we would stay late so we could save a trip back out to the same place the next day. One time we had a house that was on a very big lot and needed grass laid on the entire front and back yard. As a result, we had to show up at the house before the sun came up and we did not finish until two hours after the sun went down. We laid the final part of the front yard by using the lights of the trucks.
One other thing that I didn’t like about the job was the amount of sunburns that I had throughout my employment. I had sunburns on my arms, my legs, my face, and my neck. I never used to understand why people that work outdoors would hang a rag from there head. While working at this job I figured it out. It is to protect their neck from the sun. One time in the summer I got sunburn on the top of my arms where my elbows are. This was the worst experience with sunburn I have ever had. I was miserable! The slightest movement of my arms hurt because it was burnt right at the bend.
The main problem that I had with working in the landscape company was the stress my back went through. When we would lay the pipe for the irrigation systems I would have to be almost constantly bent over to connect the pipes. Another job that put a lot of stress on my back was laying...
