Throughout my life, I have always had the same aspect and look on life as my family. From our outlook on life, we understood that our given life was a gift and blessing from God rather than just another day in America. I was brought up in a Baptist church with amazing and interesting people. I always saw older couples with their coarse gray hair, little girls sitting in their mother’s laps with that “I want my candy back” look on their face, and even young boys who sat in the back of the church in the last pew who made fun of others in front of them. I always looked up to the elder couples as my inspiration to strive to have a relationship with God like they did. I never thought that a strange middle aged guy would walk into my life and make me rethink my Christian walk with God.
One morning as I was getting ready for church I heard my parents talking about our youth pastor leaving the church. I instantly became very upset and angry as I heard what they were saying. I kept thinking, “How could our youth pastor leave us all here with someone else? Does he not think that we are important? He’s not the person I thought he was.” That morning during our church service, our Pastor announced that the student ministry pastor would no longer be serving with us due to a new job offer at the local private Christian school as a Chaplin. The crowd of people became immensely upset with the news. We all began to wonder who the new student pastor would be. That’s when the guy with the scarred bald head walked into my life, as well as others.
As I began my life with the new youth pastor, I noticed there was something different about him, he wasn’t like my other student pastor. I began to grow a relationship much deeper than just a student relationship with him, he became a father-like figure to me.
