Minnesota Vikings
Growing up in Minnesota it’s hard not being a Minnesota Viking fan. I don’t remember not watching or liking the Vikings since I was a young kid. This was probably due to my overly competitive Dad and passionate Mom. The modern day Vikings are thought to be more of the push over type. The Vikings today can surprise you in both positive and negative ways. Recently they just beat the number one power ranked1 team the 49ers. The Vikings have the talent to be playoffs contenders; they just need to show up and play football.
The Vikings have guys they can revolve around, but sometimes they can be unreliable. Players like Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson, Chad Greenway, have all had significant injuries when they were most needed. Other players to mention that are good are: Jared Allen, A. Winfield, Christian Ponder, and Kevin Williams. These players are some of the best in the NFL. Ever since they were brought into the franchise in Jan 28, 1960 they have had talent. (Timeline, 2012) Four years is all it took to get to the playoffs. (Timeline, 2012) After 52 years as a franchise they still haven’t won a super bowl. They have gone numerous times, but failed. Recently some people wanted the Vikings to go to Las Vegas since they aren’t very good anymore.2 Instead the construction of a new stadium passed, and has been planned to start in 2013 and finish in 2016. (New Minnesota Viking Stadium, 2012). Hopefully in the long run we won’t regret keeping the Vikings around to play in Minnesota.
The Vikings had a history of being tough, ruthless, cold players. The image was immediately shattered when the metrodome was built. The Vikings lost one of their greatest teammates and never even realized it. The records of the first five seasons played in the metrodome are negative and some barely breaking even.
