Judicial & Correctional Ethics
CRJ/PHI 322.04
WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS #2 - #4
Choose one essay from each of the sections in Part II of Pojman, Contemporary Interpretations of Desert, (sections A, B, & C) and write a short paper using the following guidelines.
Summarize the main points (or argument) of the essay. Each author makes substantive statements, or claims in his essay, and illustrates these claims with examples and discussion. The sequence of these claims or statements is the argument of the essay. You may summarize the argument in paragraph form or outline form. The most important feature of this part of the assignment is to identify the significant claims in an essay.
Note what you feel to be the most convincing of the author's points, and what you find to be the most doubtful.

Try out the author’s argument on an example you find in the media or drawn from your experience. You may also choose one of the examples from the Discussion Board in the Blackboard coursepage, or an example from your reading. Reflect on how the ideas from the text fit the example.

This assignment is an exploration of ideas, and you are not expected to be able to resolve the questions you raise.

Format for submission:
* Word processed, with a cover sheet
* Minimum 700 words, maximum 1000 words
* Submit through Assignments in Blackboard
Due Dates:
Section A: September 23, 2011
Section B: October 11, 2011
Section C: October 21, 2011
If all four essays are submitted the end of October, no midterm exam is required. Otherwise, a take-home midterm will be added to ensure that students master the material from the text.
