Prejudice, Racism, Sexism and Discrimination
Introduction
In this world we have to come to realize that as we progress as humans we become more offended about prejudice and discrimination. There are many things in the government protecting the rights of women, men, racial backgrounds and even age. Everyday there is a newer way to say something for example stewardess becomes flight attendance, mailman becomes mailperson. We as humans have learned to get around the system and turn almost anything and everything into something hateful towards one another which are so interesting. In my opinion some of the ways we discriminate are ways of protecting ourselves such as gender stereotypes. It would be interesting to see how and why people discriminate and why it happens.
Detailed Description of Topic
Prejudice is a preconceived negative judgment of a group and its individual members. Prejudice is an attitude and can lead to negative evaluations with often come from negative beliefs which are stereotypes. Stereotypes are usually over generalized, inaccurate, and resistant to new information. Discrimination is a negative behavior toward a group or its members. Racism and sexism are both almost the same thing. Racism is an individual’s prejudicial attitude and discriminatory behavior toward people of a given race. Sexism is an individual’s prejudicial attitude and discriminatory behavior toward people of a give gender or sex. All of these topics will be discussed and ultimately link together.
