Love the MOTIVATOR
I believe love is better described as a motivator, rather than being classified or described as an emotion. To better explore this I will examine the difference between feelings or emotions and the conditions that motivates people to act in a certain way. To give you a more complete understanding we will review the current definitions of both motivations and emotion’s and later I will develop my own definitions.
Motivation is defined by Wikipedia, “as the set of reasons that determines one to engage in a particular behavior. According to various theories, motivation may be rooted in the basic need to minimize physical and psychological pain and maximize pleasure, or it may include specific needs such as eating and resting, or a desired object, hobby, goal, state of being, ideal.” Emotion, as also defined by Wikipedia, “is a mental and physiological state associated with a wide variety of feelings, thoughts, and behavior. Emotions are subjective experiences, or experienced from an individual point of view. Emotion is often associated with mood, temperament, personality, and disposition.” At first look most will think of love as an emotion, but as I explain my view further, you may change your mind.
What motivates you? You wake up in the morning and you decide to make a positive change in your life. Maybe you decide you want to stop a bad habit that has been controlling you. Maybe you want to spend more time with your children or work on your marriage. Or, possibly you have decided to start exercising and lose that weight you’ve been putting off for six months. Our attitude plays a major role in many of the positive life changes that we make throughout our lifetime. Unfortunately, our attitude can also bring about many negative results. A positive and joyful attitude is a part of love, and that love can change a person’s entire life in a blink of an eye.
