The Terminal Experiment, written by Robert J. Sawyer, talks about a doctor named Peter and his friend create a monster, three of them, in order to test Peter's theories of immortality and afterlife. But one of them is a killer. Finally Peter and his friend find the way to destroy this monster. American Gods, written by Neil Gaiman, is a story that Shadow is working for a god, during his working time, he meets many gods, and also he finds a big secrete plan behind his "boss". At the end, he saves the gods. Both novels are Science Fictions. The Terminal Experiment is a Canadian novel, and American Gods is an International novel. Social issues have been involved in both novels, such as human morality, relationships, and how technology changes people's lives. But relationship is a big point in both novels. Human beings are social animals, so we need to communicate with others. There are two big kinds of purpose for why we need to communicate. One is because of love; for example, when parents care about their children, because they love their children, so they care about their children for no reason, they do not want anything from their children, parents care about their children naturally. The other one is because of usefulness. Sometimes we close to someone because they can help us, we can use them to get what we want, we need them to reach our goals. We close to them because they are useful and helpful. The relationships in The Terminal Experiment is like the first one I said , which is communicate because of love. American Gods shows the second one, which is communicate because of usefulness. Both novels write the relationship between husband and wife; father and child; two partners to describe how love and usefulness are working in the communication. In one sentence, in The Terminal Experiment, love cause people to communicate; meanwhile, in American Gods, people use each other.
