Everyone lies, its a part of human nature. Mark Twain once said, “Everybody lies, every day; every hour; awake, asleep; in his dreams, in his joy; in his mourning.” Lies are usually stimulated by a desire to influence others to act or not to act in a certain manner, or to make decisions in one’s favor. Sex, money, power, respect, can all provide enough temptation to lie. Lies can also be adding to a story to make it more entertaining, or some other small form that does not necessarily hurt anyone. Lies are a foundation for social situations, everyday business, and even human survival. A world without lies would be boring and very predictable.
What would the world be without commerce? Without commerce and industry, the people of this country, and many other countries would suffer dramatically. It is safe to say that all business men and women have lied at one point or another to persuade somebody in their favor. Business lies can be broken down into to ways, good and bad. One of the most prevalent form of bad business lying is in advertising. There are many more categories, but here are two of the major liars, department stores and car dealers.
In the months before the first semester of college, there is added stress to some parents faced with buying a computer for their soon to be student. Since every family is not financially independent, paying 500 to 2000 dollars on some electronic components seem like a fortune. Then the salesperson pops the question, “Would you like the extended warranty?”. Most people will ask what the warranty entails and listed are the basics; screen damage, battery replacement, and any damage to components. These hollow words seem like a great deal for a clumsy and irresponsible teenager, so the family signs the contract and fully believes the deal will be upheld. A few months later the computer is sent back to the store because of a damaged screen, but because the contract that was slipped to them quickly stated it would not cover...
