Macao, which was once a small fishing village with high population density, is nowadays praised as ”the Eastern Los Angeles ”. Wynn, Crown, City of Dreams…… these casinos and hotel resorts are only a few of them in Macao. This special feature brings many working opportunities to the Macao citizens.
There are approximately 30 casinos together with hotel resorts in Macao and at least 1 member in a family is working in the hotels or gaming industry. The reason why is that it does not require high educational level, in other words, attracts people with low educational level who are difficult to find jobs. Regardless of you are young or old; you need not to have any special kind of talent or profession. In addition, it only takes you a few weeks to learn the skills needed, and the only preparation is to take a course and training for the certificate, proving your skill is up to standard, and in two months, you are ready to put on your uniform!
Obviously, it is a great encouragement for the Macao citizens who have medium or even lower educational level to get into work, thus maintaining a stability of Macao’s employment rate. Moreover, the industry offers much higher salary than others, as a result, the occupation becomes a majority in Macao.

On the contrary, as it is very easy to enter this industry, many people, including many Form 5 graduates, who enter it without any consideration. It brings a wrong concept to the Macao students that people with low educational level can also get a high salary job, so they give up continuing their further studies and the entire enterprising spirit is getting down. In the long term view, it is not wroth since the job competitiveness of the industry is low, once the unemployment occurs, one can hardly find another job with such an inadequate educational level.
