DIARY ENTRY
Monday May 9 1603

Today I had the privilege of attending the coronation ceremony of our new king Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. They looked rather dashing in their regal attire and the ceremony ran smoothly and was even more memorable that I had expected. Later after the coronation ceremony I the thane of Angus was invited to Macbeth’s coronation banquet later on after the coronation. In the beginning Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Ross, Lennox, the lord, I and the other attendants entered the dining area for the banquet. At first I could see that Macbeth was in a good mood as he welcomes everyone and tells us all to sit down. Normally the host would give each guest an individual greeting and escort them to their seat. Instead Macbeth tells us that we know where to sit; in degrees arranged by social class, and greeted us all as a whole. Now I could se that he was trying to be the humble host by showing us how down-to-Earth he can be even though he is now the king. Just as Macbeth was about to sit down he jumped up and ran towards the door saying “we’ll drink a measure”. For the most part I saw Macbeth standing at the door apparently saying nothing. As a guest I felt unwelcome by being constantly invited to eat and drink freely. While away from home the most important thing for a guest is to be treated like a guest. Soon after Macbeth left the table Lady Macbeth went to talk to him. Momentarily Macbeth returns and wished us all good digestion, good appetite and good health. Then Comments about Banquo’s absence and says that he probably didn’t show up because he felt that he had something better to do. However Ross Agrees that Banquo should have kept his promise and attended the banquet anyway. After that Ross invites Macbeth to come and sit among us at the table. At that time...
