Male Bashing

While driving in my car one day, I noticed a bumper sticker on the car in front of me that read:
"Women who seek to be equal to men lack ambition". Some people may say this quote is funny,
because in today's society it has become acceptable to use men bashing as humor, with men
being the center of many jokes, comedies and television shows. It's an attitude that has been
glamorized and seen as witty, making women appear strong and independent, while making men
seem dumb and unnecessary. This hostile behavior against men, or "male bashing",
has become part of our culture and completely acceptable and even funny, however, it would be considered completely inappropriate by the standards set by our society to treat women in the same way.

Gender differences have always been fertile ground for humor, hence the success of many comedy shows, books and other media. But today, men are being targeted in a way that portrays them as incapable, dumb and unnecessary. We are taking their gender-specific traits and exploiting them in order to bring them "down", perhaps in order to bring the female gender "up". It also affects the view that women have of men. Women can expect very little from men, based on this portrayal of the stereotypical male in America, who is dumb and incapable of handling things as well as a woman can.

On the other hand, if we were to turn things around, hell would break lose. After the feminist
movement, women are much more in tune with their right to be respected and viewed as equally
capable as men. If we were to see a man on a TV show treating a woman as dumb or incapable,
it would not only be considered in bad taste to do so, but it would also unleash controversies in
the media, and people would stop...
