McDonald’s Leadership and Management

The success of any organization depends on management and leadership. This paper will discuss the difference between management and leadership at McDonald’s corporation. It will also describe the roles and responsibilities that organizational managers and leaders play in creating and maintaining a healthy organizational culture. An evaluation of the impact of globalization and management across borders will be included in the discussion along with two strategies that organizational managers and leaders can use to create and maintain a healthy organizational culture within McDonalds.

History of McDonald’s

McDonald’s restaurant was established in 1940, two brothers in Los Angeles, California opened the restaurant. Ray Kroc is the responsible for starting the fast food restaurants, but he did not start the franchises (Clive and Damaris, 2007). He opened the ninth restaurant and later purchased the restaurants from the brothers.

Today, McDonald’s is the world’s largest fast food chain and is a global food service retailer with more than 31,000 local restaurants and 118 in other countries (Clive and Damaris, 2007). More than 70% of the restaurants are privately owned and operated by independently. McDonald’s is known to be one of the most profitable companies in the world. McDonald’s menu selection as been the same for the last thirty years, they are in the process of redesigning, because many of the foods items served are unhealthy (Clive and Damaris, 2007).

The difference between management and leadership at McDonald’s is management deals with the organizing and planning in the restaurant.
