THE SOUND OF MUSIC

First off I want to start by saying, “thank you for making this an assignment!” I thought The Sound of Music was a phenomenal movie! As I said in my first writing assignment to you, I do not have any background in music, or the arts at all for that matter. After watching this movie, I was so impressed with it that I was telling a few friends about it. There response to me was that they were surprised that I have never heard of it before. They told me that it is one of the great classic movies. I was so embarrassed. My only response to them was, “well this is why I was taking this music course. I found this movie appealing for many reasons.

Maria was my favorite character in this movie. I loved her all around care free attitude towards life. Her unpredictability made this movie humorous. She taught those children so much in the little time she spent with them in the beginning. It goes to show how you can get through to other individuals with just the sound of music, even children can relate. I loved the fact that with just the sound of music in the Von Trapp home changed the attitude in the entire house. It brought life back into Captain Von Trapp, therefore allowed him to view his children in an entire new light. There was laughter and play in the home now. I could not imagine living in a home where it was so rigid, and structured. It was very obvious that his former wife had passed and left him with such sad and bitter feelings. He then raised his children the only way he knew how, which was military style. I didn’t know my distaste for the sound of a whistle until I heard the way he called for his children.

I liked that mother Abbess, allowed Maria to follow her heart. She allowed Maria to see what god really wanted for her life. Now sister Margaretta, and sister Berthe, were clever at the end of the movie by removing the automobile parts.
