Marketing a new product or idea to a different country is hard to say the least. Look at all the obstacles there are language, cultural, and religious beliefs just to name a few. Also is the product needed in that country or would it be a waste of time trying to market there. Would it be wise to try and market sunscreen to people who live in Antarctica were that product is not really needed. Marketing products in a new country does not only consist of tangible items but also intangible ones to. Let’s look back a few hundred years ago and see what happened when people from England tried coming to America they brought their beliefs and ways of life with them and tried to change the way of life of the indigenous people here in the new world. Where they met opposition but over time they seemingly won out and that is why this country is what it is today.
Case in point Apple tried to introduce their new iPhone in Japan back in early 2005; which is a country that is very tech savvy to begin with. Japan has long been famous for its advanced cellphones with sci-fi features like location tracking, mobile credit card payment and live TV. Japan’s wireless networks run the 3G LAN system with is a much faster network and the iPhone with uses a different platform would not work on that 3G network. . But most of the features are hard to use or not used at all. Witch has become the norm these handsets have been the envy of consumers in the United States, where cell technology has trailed an estimated five years or more. Some of the other pitfalls of the iPhone were the lack of video and the low memory of the phone also the 2 mega pixel camera on the phone was subpar for most of the Japanese citizens.
Some of the lessons that were learned when apple introduced the iPhone in japan was the customer base there wanted more. They wanted the ability to do everything from their phone like pay bills and purchase tickets online and do their daily internet surfing and watch TV on their...
