The whole point of Gattica is to show that the human spirit makes people capable of absolutely anything they put their mind to despite their limitations.In the movie people master the human genome, able to engineer themselves to be perfect in every conceivable way. This concept is so prevalent in the movies' setting that anyone who isn't genetically engineered is considered to be inferior and as such incapable of doing anything as well as one of them. The main character(in disguise) not only does as well as the engineered people but better, even though he wasn't armed with the same genetic head start he excelled through sheer force of will. Basically he excelled using the one aspect of being a human being that couldn't be manipulated by science. To put it into context for a very long time people held the opinion that African Americans were inferior and incapable of keeping up with white people. Today we know different, but unfortunately in reality as in the movie, society hasn't quite learned the lesson the movie was trying to promote.
