Max Davis aka Max Reynders is a 19 year-old blogger from Belgium and well-known for his original (and free!) layouts for the blogging website tumblr.com. He left school at 16 and started, one big year ago, exploring the world wide web. Today he’s one of the most followed people on tumblr and his themes are copied over 4,000,000 times. In the near future he will start his first webshop 20x20limited: a limited collection of personalized stuff & things of brands he likes.
Q. You're a designer and you make Tumblr themes (amazing ones), but why did you choose Tumblr? Also how long have you been doing this for?
* Thankyou! I didn’t really chose for tumblr actually, I first made a tumblr blog in december 2010 with no knowledge about building websites or anything. I learned about webdesigning by searching everything I wanted or needed to know on google, everything is self-taught. When I made a tumblr I didn’t planned to make themes for it. It was begin march that I started to edit my own theme and people liked it and kept asking me for the code of it. Begin may 2011 I made a website for my tumblr layouts were people could get them for free.
Q. What inspired you to become a designer? Is this something you would like to continue doing as you get older?
* I think my biggest inspiration would be my dad, because he’s a disigner himself. I kinda grew up in the design world and I’ve always wanted to become a graphic designer, but never really had the change to go in that direction on school because I was too young and my school grades were really bad so I quit with school with the hope I could finally do my own thing and I did.
Q. How does it feel being a huge deal to the Tumblr community? You have over 3 million downloads on your themes! That's crazy!
* It’s crazy indeed! Never taught it would turn out so big, it gives a really good feeling yea!
Q. What are your goals for 2012? I believe you mentioned that you wanted to create your own clothing...
