We do need some education

With all due respect to the radical ideology of Pink Floyd, I beg to differ. It has been an overwhelming first term of the Executive Post Graduate Program at Indian Institute of Management Indore. I am filled with mixed feelings of awe, inspiration and contemplation as I along with the batch of 45 wrote the last term-exam on Decision Analysis. I wonder though, how to draw a decision tree that would give the Expected Value of my experience. Set apart from the hustle- bustle of the Indore city and surrounded by hectares of meadows and faintly visible hillocks is the picturesque 196 acre campus of IIM Indore. It was a dream come true to have finally landed here in end of August to pursue the 1 year program. On the first day, while sipping hot tea outside the executive dining area and soaking the panoramic view, I spoke to my enthusiastic classmates. Full of ideas and aspirations was a batch of professionals who shared the same level of aspirations as I did. Like me, for most of them, the journey from GMAT/ CAT preparations to the relieving day at their office had been long and we all vowed to make the best of this opportunity. The first term has been full of learning in terms of discussing business strategies, unravelling the truth behind financial statements to sharing our personal and professional experiences. Cricket matches at 1 AM in the morning, tea at 2 AM and case discussions till wee hours of morning have become part of life. With everyday comes a new opportunity to implement the class learning in our daily routine by making trade-offs between watching a movie and reading a book, choosing an elective that leverages our core competence, making strategy to breach entry barriers for our fledgling Executive program in Industry, creating value for our batch, marketing ourselves, planning for all rounded growth and experience, and even implementing the oriental philosophy in our work environment.
