McBride Financial Services is a start-up regional mortgage lender headquartered in Boise, Idaho. The financial institution specializes in processing client requests for conventional, Federal Housing Administration (FHA), and Veterans Administration (VA) loans for home purchase or home refinance (University of Phoenix, 2009). The company plans to expand operations to four locations: Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Since the company is planning this expansion, the company must design, procure, and deploy local area networks (LAN) for each location as well as construct a wide area network (WAN) that will allow all locations to interface with one another and the headquarters. Abram LaBelle, Smith Systems Consulting, assigned Team C the task of creating a requirements document and logical design for presentation to Hugh McBride, the project sponsor.
Background
A meeting between Abram LaBelle and Hugh McBride resulted in Mr. McBride giving Mr. LaBelle a brief summary of McBride Financial Services. Mr. McBride explained that the financial institution’s goal is to be the superior provider of low cost mortgage services in the company’s region by providing mortgages to homebuyers; specializing in first time buyers and clients with credit issues (University of Phoenix, 2009). The Sioux Falls office, the only location with a signed lease thus far in the expansion project, will earn profits through cost control measures such as keeping office staff small with a heavy reliance upon technology vice employing a large staff of loan brokers and secretaries to market and sell financing packages to each client. The use of technology allows loan approvals and denials to be sent electronically clients after the lending committee at the headquarters makes the loan decision.
