Step your way to Achieve 3.2
So you have some work to do on 3.2. Before you panic, take a look over this sheet and consider the STRUCTURE of your answer.

In Task 1 you need to:
“Analyse perceptively the way THREE distinctive elements of film language are used in TWO Neo Noir films to communicate meaning to their audience. Evaluate each director’s success or otherwise in using the element to create meaning, and help to, ultimately, produce a film in the Noir cannon.”

To guide your answer follow the structure and suggested point of discussions below. You need to follow the following 11 Steps THREE times in order to cover Element One, Element Two and Element Three that you choose.

Step 1: Set up the element you have chosen – discuss briefly what it is and why it is important in Noir films in general. – You may like to set up its traditional use in the Film Noir genre.
Step 2: Move into the first film and explain how the director has used the element in
general in the film overall and why it can be analysed to relate or signify itself as
a Neo Noir.
Step 3: Now support your general claims and use SPECIFIC SCENE ONE from the
film and analyse perceptively the use of the convention in this scene. To do
this you need to at least:
a. Briefly detail the scene – What happens and where it is placed in the film
b. Analyse the use of the element in the scene - How has the director used the element and how is it communicating meaning to the audience so that they understand the scene, character, narrative or wider understanding of the film?
c. Be Perceptive – Can you link this scene and the use of the element to another or make conclusions beyond this – to the film – to Film Noir genre – to other Neo Noirs? (This is what leads you into Step 4)
Step 4: Use the link and support your analysis further with SPECIFIC SCENE TWO
from the film and REPEAT as for Step 3.
Step 5: From your in-depth readings tie...
