Why are kids Neglected?
According to the Webster’s dictionary neglect is defined as “to give little attention or respect to”. There are many people in the world that deal with neglect but the more important situation is who is neglecting who and if it is affecting them deeply or not at all. In the Glass Castle written by Jeannette Walls her, her sister Lori and her brother Brian, have dealt with neglect all their lives from their parents Rex and Rosemary. Because their family has lived in poverty most of their lives it is not an uncommon case for them to go hungry or cold at night. Their lives involve more of these hurtful ongoing daily situations but why is neglect or poverty never a solved case around the world? The choices people make can change a life in an instant and for those around as well. Moreover there is always that thought if parents really love their kids or they are forced to love them. This essay revolves around the fact that Rex and Rosemary neglect and emotionally abuse their children because they continue their poor habits in live life making them selfish.
Many children grow up with an abusive parent, or parents that have a drug or alcohol addiction. Rex is an alcoholic, through ought Jeannette’s life he had gone through periods of time where alcohol would take over and start problems at home, this usually lead to abuse towards his whole family at times whether it would be emotionally or physically. With so many incidents in the house Jeannette, her brother and sisters have learned to deal with it and ignore him whenever he got in his moods. No family and their household can ever be normal, but there can be an understanding where “normal” is accepted. At one point in Jeannette’s life she had to watch her mother almost get killed by her dad with a knife all because he was drunk that one night. This example is where the line gets drawn, but of course it does not hold any significant meaning for Rex because he continues with his daily drinking...
